The first module in each section comprises a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions, and the difficulty of the second module is determined based on the student's performance in the first. The majority of questions are multiple choice, but some math questions require students to input their answers. Importantly, there is no penalty for guessing on any of the questions.
Significant changes in the digital SAT compared to the paper version include shorter reading passages with only one question per passage, as opposed to multiple questions in the paper SAT. The passages in the digital version cover a broader range of topics, tones, and styles, particularly focusing on the humanities, including a few poetry questions. The questions are organized based on the skill set they test, rather than the reading topic. The skills assessed in the Reading and Writing modules include Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions.
